  2. Section 1: List the characteristics and issues of young adulthood. Young Adulthood Reassessment – adults in their 20’s often believe they have chosen the course in life that is exactly right as they reach their 30’s the re-evaluate the decisions they have made in effort to determine whether their chosen course is the right one. Settling Down – after the early 30’s the middle to late 30’s are characterized by career and family. Marriage and Intimate Relationships – marriages and relationships at this age tend to be more stable, early time periods such as teenage years statistically are not as stable.

  3. Section 2 – Describe the issues faced in middle adulthood. Middle Adulthood (40-65) – time when most people begin to lose some of the strength,coordination, and stamina. Generaltivity – the ability to create, originate, and produce Erik Erikson – generativity adds meaning to our lives. Stagnant – lack of advancement or development leads to feelings of emptiness and meaninglessness Transition – midlife, triggering a sense of urgency Midlife Crisis – a turning point Empty Nest Syndrome Monopause

  4. Section 3: Analyze the changes that occur and the concerns of people in late adulthood. Late Adulthood (65 +)‏ • Physical changes and bodily changes occur as the body weakens. • Cellular damage, biological clocks, and the break down of functions • Cognitive Changes Dementia and Alzheimers • Social Changes • Successful Aging – adjustment and reshaping

  5. Section 4: Explain the attitudes and issues related to death and dying. Death and Dying • Stages of Dying 1. Denial 2. Anger 3. Bargaining 4. Depression 5. Acceptance • Reactions to Dying Quickly shifting emotions-rage to surrender Accept easily or feel despair

  6. Death and Dying, cont. Dying and Dignity Knowledge that ones final wishes will be carried out Hospice and cancer Euthanasia Wills and Living Wills Funerals – history, practice, and purpose Bereavement - mourning
