What I Already Know . . . • Alzheimer’s is not discriminatory; people of every race, gender, social class and educational background are affected • My grandfather suffered from Alzheimer’s • Although victims are usually 60 or older, Alzheimer’s has been diagnosed in people as young as 30 • Victims have periods of lucidity mixed with confusion until eventually there is only confusion • Alzheimer’s victims suffer from delusions of persecution • Alzheimer’s victims may grow violent

What Do I Want To Discover? • How does normal brain maturation differ from a brain affected by Alzheimer’s Disease? • What related diseases may be mistaken for Alzheimer’s? • What clinical trials are available? • What related health problems can be expected with an Alzheimer’s diagnosis? • Can lifestyle contribute to Alzheimer’s Disease? • At what stage will memory loss begin to affect day to day living? • Can the disease be cured? • What type of care is necessary after a diagnosis? • Are there non-drug therapies?

The Story of My Search • Delicious ensures that I don’t forget to cite any of my sources • I reacquainted myself with Power Library • SIRS is great for newspaper articles • The full-text articles in Health and Science have so far given me a plethora of information • Citations are made easy with power library “cite” option • I currently have 2 articles on normal brain aging

  6. My Search ResultsI created my thesis from my BIG question: There are distinct differences between normal brain maturation and a brain affected by Alzheimer’s Disease.

  7. My Growth as a Researcher I now am proficient creating an MLA formatted document I am confident in creating citations for my sources I can use now utilize Power Library from home and school I understand how the key words in my Works Cited form my parenthetical citations information
