  2. Building Blocks of the Quest • Introduction • Task • Process • Resources • Evaluation • Conclusion

  3. Step 1: Introduction • Our class has been selected by GATESOL to present a symposium of current issues facing TESOL today. Topics have been given to us and we are to professionally present our convictions supporting an issue. This symposium is open to teachers and church workers in NE Georgia and will be held on our campus. There are five issues that are to be presented. We will QUEST for supportive documentation of the issue, construct our conclusions, and convincingly present our findings to those attending the symposium.

  4. Current Issues • Bilingualism is the best approach to teaching ESL/FL • English Only is (the best or a poor) approach to teaching ESL/FL • Immigration is a challenge to the Church and an opportunity for TESOL • (continued)

  5. Current Issues (cont) • Being a Christian EFL teacher is rewarding, challenging and needed • TESOL is a powerful tool for aiding church planting and development

  6. Step 2: The Task • At the conclusion of the symposium the presenters will have: • Discovered why a statement is an issue or perhaps why it should be one; • Refined skills (technical & oral) in professionally sharing knowledge gained; • Become better informed about current issues through direct and indirect participation in the Quest; • Gained an awareness of the potential for finding ESL/EFL material on the Web.

  7. Step 3: The Process • Divide class into 5 groups with each group taking an issue • Meet in your group ASAP; define roles & responsibilities; develop action plan • Quest for information on Web and other resources (dialogue with each other during this stage sharing “finds” and “challenges”) • (continued)
