Introduction • Childrens Ward • WHY? 12 hours shift
Methodology • Data Collection techniques- questionnaire • Sample size-16 • Population: Married-9 and Single-7 • Ethical Issues- Consent, Confidentiality • Study Limitation
Findings: Positive Response • More family time. • Extra days off • More rest time • Longer period of patient care • Saves money • Better than 8 hours shift.
Findings: Negative Response • Long hours • Tiring hours • Less rest time • Stressed easily • Fatigue • Staff shortage • Away from family for too long
Findings: Other comments • Majority of the nurses agreed they had more family time and extra days off on the positive effects. • Negative effects: 53% voiced it is long hours and staff shortage. • 8 hours leads up to 9-9½ hours. • 12 hours leads to 13-13½ hours when there is shortage of staff.
Recommendation • More staff are needed • Proper rest room and bathrooms • Better meals to be served • Flexibility with the rosters • Staff on sick leave should be replaced • Further studies should be coordinated at a larger scale.
