SPAN and TIPHON : Together? Conclusions from a brainstorming session between the (majority) of the SPAN management team and the chairman of TIPHON Hans van der Veer
NGN-SG Recommendations • ETSI should take a leading role in pushing for global consolidation of NGN Standardisation • ETSI should make a set of targeted NGN related standardisation initiatives covering the fields of • architectures and protocols • end-to-end QoS • service platforms • network management • lawful interception and security Initial Conclusion: • Since these technical fields all relate to the ToR of TC SPAN and as well as to the ToR of EP TIPHON, it seems appropriate to investigate a possible “going together” of these ETSI TBs
Current WG Organisation Possible New Organisation • Maintenance • E. 164 • (B-)ISDN Service Descriptions • INAP • DSS1 • DSS2 • SS7 (e.g. ISUP) • SPAN 11: • Numbering & Addressing • Routing • Service Descriptions/Req. • WG - Requirements and Architectures • Service requirements • Architectures (IPCableCom) • IP Federated Networks • SPAR • OSA/Parlay (3GPP) • SPAN 12: • OSA/Parlay (3GPP) & Testing • H.248 (IPCableCom) • BICC • INAP Conformance Testing • WG - Protocols • H.248 (IPCableCom) • BICC • SIGTRAN & SIP (IPCAbleCom) • DTM • SPAN 13: • DTM • SIGTRAN • SIP (IPCableCom) • Conformance Testing (e.g. DSS1) • WG - Numbering, Naming & Addressing • Numbering & Addressing & Routing • WG - Testing • Conformance Testing for e.g. INAP, DSS1, SS7 • SPAN 14: • Architectures (IPCableCom) • IP Federated Networks • SPAR • WG - Maintenance • e.g. E.164, (B)ISDN Serv. Possible New SPAN Organisation Possible New TIPHON Organisation • WG - Requirements and Architectures • Service requirements • Architectures (e.g. IPCableCom) • IP Federated Networks • SPAR • OSA/Parlay (3GPP) • WG - Requirements and Architectures • Service Req. A Combined TB “NGN”? • Possible Organization, covering all current SPAN & TIPHON work: • WG01: Requirements & Architecture • to be split into several sub-WGs (e.g. OSA/Parlay) • WG02: Protocols • WG03: Numbering, Naming & Addressing • WG04: Quality of Service • WG05: Security • WG06: Testing • WG07: Maintenance (of published NA/SPS/SPAN ENs) • Conclusion:A going together of SPAN and TIPHON offers a lot of advantages (e.g. allows future integration with other TBs)!
