SIN • Sin is deceitful, Heb. 3:12-13 • Sin never delivers what it offers, Heb. 11:25; 2 Pet. 2:17-19 • Example: Samson, Heb. 11:32 • Nazirite, Jgs. 13:5; Num. 6:1-5 (Lk. 9:23; Gal. 2:20; 2 Cor. 6:17-7:1) • At times he was ruled by revenge and passion (Jgs. 14:1-4; 16:1, 4) • In death acknowledged God as source of power, Jgs. 16:17,20,28

  3. Sin Always Takes You Farther Than You Wanted To Go Jgs. 16: 4-20 • Constant enticements broke Samson’s will, 16:15-17 (6-7) • Sin’s must be resisted from its first allurements! Prov. 1:10-16; 4:14-15 • How? cf. Prov. 7:1-5 • Sin, when given opportunity, will progress to more evil, Psa. 1:1 • Eats like a sore, 2 Tim. 2:16-18 (3:13) • Hardens and condemns, Heb. 6:4-6

Sin Always Keeps You Longer Than You Wanted To Stay Jgs. 16: 20-21 • Samson did not intend to remain bound, 16:20 • Must consider immediate and long term effects of sin, Prov. 23:29-35 • Do not experiment with sin – it is blinding and powerful, 2 Cor. 4:4; 2 Pet. 2:19 • Sin is wasteful, causing despair and desperation, Luke 15:11-17

  5. Sin Always Keeps You Longer Than You Wanted To Stay Jgs. 16: 20-21 • Beware of the controlling power of sin, John 8:34 (Rom. 6:11-14) • Escape sin’s control by obeying the gospel and serving righteousness, Rom. 6:16-18 (1 Pet. 4:1-4; Eph. 4:22-24) • Remain in the word of Christ, John 8:31-32

  6. Sin Always Costs You More Than You Wanted To Pay Jgs. 16:30 • Recklessness with God’s blessing cost Samson his sight, his dignity, his strength, his freedom and finally his life, 16:21, 25, 30 • In his self-sacrifice, God heard and answered him, 16:22, 28-30

Sin Always Costs You More Than You Wanted To Pay Jgs. 16:30 • Choosing sin will cost you… • Your soul, Rom. 6:23; Lk. 12:20-21 (4-5); Matt. 16:26 • God’s fellowship, 2 Cor. 6:17 • Peace with God and man, peace of mind, Col. 1:21; Phil. 4:6-7 • Dignity, honor, good name, Eph. 5:12 • Heaven, Rev. 21:7-8, 27

The Nature of Sin • Learn from Samson! • Don’t deceive yourself, 1 Cor. 10:12 • Victory over sin is only achieved in Christ, Eph. 6:10, 13 • You must believe and obey Jesus • Believe, Mk. 16:15-16 • Confess your faith, Rom. 10:10 • Repent of your sins, Acts 26:20 • Be baptized, Acts 2:38 • Be faithful, Rev. 2:10
