FOCUS • Make a list of any paying jobs you have held and identify the responsibilities that accompanied each job. • Everyone, open a word document, put your name on it, list your present job and your job responsibilities with that job. Turn it in to MR. G. Chapter 21
HOW ARE EMPLOYMENT CONTRACTS MADE? • Terms of the employment contract • Express agreements – oral and written documents • Implied agreements – hourly workers under “employment at will” which means an employee can be discharged anytime and for any cause. • Terms imposed by law –minimum wage, minorities. Chapter 21
HOW ARE EMPLOYMENT CONTRACTS TERMINATED? • By performance –completion of job or period of time. • By termination at will • Wrongful discharge- race, religion, gender, age, disability, pregnancy, veteran, union activities • Violation of contract terms- “treat employees fairly”, if in contract, they cannot fire you • Government employees –are entitled to due process. • By material breach –obligations written are not carried out on both sides of the agreement. • Unemployment compensation –if employee was not fired for “cause” then they are entitled to unemployment insurance Chapter 21
