What are the advantages of masking with tape. • Natural rubber adhesive for good instant adhesion • Easy tear, pressure sensitive
What are the different sizes of brushes? • 1.5" FLAT TIP PAINT BRUSH / BEAVER TAIL HANDLE • 2.5" FLAT TIP PAINT BRUSH / BEAVER TAIL HANDLE • 2" ANGULAR SASH PAINT BRUSH / SHORT 2" HANDLE • 2" ANGULAR SASH PAINT BRUSH • 2" NATURAL-BRISTLE PAINT BRUSH
Where are the different size brushes used? • 1. Small Flat Tip Paint Brush with a beaver tail handle, allowing you to maneuver in tight and narrow places. They're also great for doing crafts and hobbies. • 2. The beaver tail handle is 4" long. The shorter thicker handle balances the weight of the brush head and provides a good firm grip. An excellent all around paint brush used for priming and painting baseboards, crown moldings, doors and door frames. • 3. This brush has a short 2" beaver tail handle. Because of the angle (14 degrees) and short handle, you will be able to maneuver the paint brush in tight and narrow places. This is a great paint brush for painting inside kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, closets shelves, and many harder to paint tight areas.
Different size brushes cont. • 4. Instead of a straight or flat edge, the edge of an Angular Sash Paint Brush is at 14 degrees. The angular design allows you extra control when painting narrow spaces, cutting in next to the ceiling line, or cutting-in a baseboard or door moldings [door moldings refers to those boards that run along the outline of a door or the door frame] Try an Angle Sash Brush on your next project and experience that extra control. • 5. This 2" angular sash paint brush is made of natural china white bristles and is used for oil-based paints, like primers, stains and shellacs. White bristles are softer and more flexible than black bristles, providing you with the smoothest finish with virtually no brush-marks. Use the china bristle, oil brush when painting wood furniture, baseboards, crown moldings, doors and door frames.
Where are the three types of roller naps used? • Nap Length • Use 3/16" to 1/4" Smooth surfaces: • Metal doors, interior doors and trim, cabinets • Perfect for semi-gloss or gloss coatings • With all oil- and water-base enamels • 3/8" to 1/2" Medium (semi-smooth) surfaces • Use on painted or unpainted walls • Great for walls and ceilings • 3/4" to 1" Semi-rough surfaces • Great for stucco • 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" Extra rough surfaces • Use on brick and masonry • Use for painting cinder block and chain link fences
What is cutting in? Cutting-in refers to a brushed single line one completes around the exterior perimeter of the room or project area, he/she is painting Cutting-in a baseboard is the brushing of only the baseboard or shoe molding that runs along the floor but not the wall, especially if they are different colors from each other
“Keeping a wet edge” means.. • Professionals try to stroke or roll over the paint from dry areas back into wet areas. That way a coat of paint always blends back into itself to create a smooth, continuous layer. This is called “keeping a wet edge,”
Best way to paint using a roller.. • Step 1: Hold it in your dominant hand. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and your roller directly in front of you for control. If you’re using an extension pole, place your dominant hand toward the bottom for control and your non-dominant hand at the middle position for leverage and pressure. • Step 2: Use a long, slow, upward diagonal stroke to unload the first part of the “M” pattern. In a continuing motion, follow the first upward stroke with a long, slow stroke downward at a diagonal.
Best way to paint using a roller..cont. • Step 3: In a continuing motion, use another long, slow, upward diagonal stroke and another long, slow downward diagonal stroke to finish the “M” pattern • Step 4:Paint a series of horizontal strokes working from the bottom of the “M” to the top. • Step 5: Smooth the section by making a series of downward strokes from top to bottom.Repeat the process of loading and painting. Working in small sections, move from dry areas to wet ones, overlapping the wet edge each time.
Difference between finish paints and primers.. • Primer paint gives your finished paint job a smoother finish than if you did not use a primer at all because paint grips better and it will last much longer. • Primers will, even though relatively expensive, save you a lot of money in the long run.
Three benefits of using primers.. • A primer or undercoat is a preparatory coating put on materials before painting. Priming ensures better adhesion of paint to the surface, increases paint durability, and provides additional protection for the material being painted
The amount if surface shine they produce when dry.. • High-Gloss Paints, often referred to as "enamels," are the shiniest and most reflective paints. They produce the hardest, most water-resistant and most washable surface coating, so they're most often used on wood trim and kitchen, bath and playroom walls. However, surface flaws show most when covered with high-gloss paint. • Semi-Gloss Paints, also known as "eggshell," "velvet," or "satin" paints produce a somewhat shiny surface that's more reflective than a flat paint but less reflective than a high-gloss surface. They resist moisture better than a flat paint, so they're more washable and serve well on walls in hallways, kitchens, baths, and children's bedrooms. • Flat Paints leave a "dull" or "matte" finish, with no gloss, shine or reflectivity. They work best on irregular wall surfaces where you want to hide the imperfections as much as possible. Flat most typically used on ceilings, living rooms, and dining rooms over drywall surfaces.
Clean up procedure for latex paints? Cont. • Step1 : Remove the paint from your brushes, rollers and paint pans by rinsing them in cool water until the water runs clear. Be sure to splay the paint brush bristles apart while rinsing to ensure that the paint gets removed from deep down in the brush. Squeezing and scrubbing the rollers with your hands as you rinse will help to remove the paint. • Step2 : Comb out your paint brushes with the wire brush, beginning from the handle and moving to the end of the bristles, to remove any dried paint and to properly align the bristles for drying and storage of the brush.
Clean up procedure for latex paints? • Step3:Remove any dried paint splatters from hard surfaces by scraping (your fingernail works well for this), or by applying a latex paint remover, such as Goof Off, on the paint splatter. Allow it to soften the paint for a few minutes before scraping. • Step4: Remove paint from carpeting with a stain remover, such as Spot Shot, if the paint is still wet. If the paint has dried, use the paint remover/Goof Off to soften it; scrub up what you can with a white rag; and follow up with the stain remover/Spot Shot to remove any remaining dye from the carpeting. • Step5: Remove latex paint from sidewalks and other concrete surfaces by running water onto the surface with a hose and scrubbing with a wire brush. Goof Off will be helpful for this application also, if desired.
Proper way to dispose of unwanted paint. • Latex Paint:the container needs to be completely emptied. To safely do this, you can purchase paint hardener to solidify the paint, or you can even use kitty litter, mulch or shredded paper from your paper shredder. Once the paint has dried, you can easily scoop the paint out. Dried latex paint can be disposed of in the rubbish. Metal paint cans can be disposed of as well, and recycled if empty.
Unwanted paint cont. • Oil-Based Paint :For disposal of oil-based paint, you should bring the paint to a local recycling station. You may want to call before visiting, since they all have different policies on what they do with oil based paint. Oil-based paint is either incinerated or recycled by actually using the paint.
