  3. CAEP Accreditation and Standards Implementation • Raise the bar for educator preparation and, in turn, for student learning • Incorporate national peer review and stakeholder investment in quality assurance • Work closely with states on reform implementation

  4. Where We Are With CAEP Accreditation Standards Commission Structure and Working Groups

Standard 1: Content and Pedagogical Knowledge The provider ensures that candidates develop a deep understanding of the critical concepts and principles of their discipline and, by completion, are able to use discipline-specific practices flexibly to advance the learning of all students toward attainment of college- and career-readiness expectations.

  6. Components of Standard 1 • There are 9 components to this standard that span the areas of: • Content and pedagogical knowledge (1 component), • Instructional practice (4 components), • The learner and learning (3 components), and • Equity (1 component)

  7. Content and Pedagogy • Quality/Selectivity of Candidates • Clinical Practice and Partnerships • Accreditation, Public Accountability, and Transparency • Capacity, Quality, and Continuous Improvement

  8. Implementation Challenges Ahead • Systemic Change is Required • “Big Data” and Technology Must Reshape Preparation • Can CAEP do for education what theFlexner Report did for medicine?
