Canada Hockey Place • The ice hockey event occurs here • It was originally called General Motors Place but changed because of different sponsors during the Olympics • The ice rink is 85ft wide unlike the international standard of 100ft • It is the first time the Olympic tournaments will be played on a narrow rink

UBC Thunderbird Arena • The ice hockey event occurs here also • It is also known as Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Center • This is where Canada’s National Hockey Program was born in 1963 when Bob Hindmarchand Rev. Father David Bauer established Canada’s first national hockey team in preparation of the 1964 Olympic winter games in Austria • According to the chief ice maker the best ice thickness is about 2.5cm with ideal air temp between 15°C-17°C and a humidity of 40-44%

Vancouver Olympic Center • It is located in Vancouver community close to Queen Elizabeth Park • The curling event occurs here • It has a very highly efficient HVAC system to create ideal curling ice • There are 2 specialized technicians from the World Curling Federation to oversee ice management along with 15 volunteer ice makers • Also it uses a state of the art ice-quality monitoring system called Eye which uses tiny devices that are everywhere record data and send it to the central computer where the ice technicians make any changes if need be • Also all other venues that use ice have Eye and this venue once the Olympics are over will be turned into a recreational facility for the curling club
