Oxgoads 101 With Professor Shamgar
“After [Ehud] came Shamgar the son of Anath, who struck down six hundred Philistines with an oxgoad; and he also saved Israel.” (Judges 3:31)
Recognize the enemy • The world (John 16:8; James 1:27) • Unfaithful brethren (Romans 16:17-18; Philippians 3:17-19) • Our own weaknesses (1 John 2:15-16) • The devil (Ephesians 6:10-12)
Accept the responsibility • If I don’t, who will? (Isaiah 6:8) • If I do, who else might? (Judges 4:8) • “If it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the Lord, chose for yourselves today whom you will serve; … but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15)
Defy the odds • God does wondrous things with small amounts (1 Kings 17:8-16; 2 Kings 4:1-7; Judges 7; John 6:1-14) • Forces are at work with us that we can’t comprehend (2 Kings 6:15-18) • We have more with us in this life than we know (1 Kings 19:18)
What oxgoad can YOU useto save Israel? • Your service? • Your prayer? • Your dedication? • Your joy?
