aniline True liquid oily. Reddish brown . Fishy odor. Inflammable ,luminous ,smoky. Volatilization . No change in color , odour and no residue. Immiscible in H2O ,10% NaOH . Miscible in large amount of dilHcl . It is basic.
Preliminary test Soda lime: not done. 30% NaOH: no reaction. FeCL3: 1ml anililine +dilHcl( to dissolve it) + fecl3 then warm→ green color. Conc. H2SO4: white ppt. of aniline sulphate.
General test • Acetylation: • Aniline + acetic unhydride reflux for 20 min. → white ppt. of anilide ( acetylated aniline). • Azo dye • 1- aniline +dilHcl +NaNO2 put in ice → pale yellow color. • 2- phenol+ 10% NaOH → put in ice. • 3- add 1 on 2 → brilliant red orange color dye .
Aniline salt Solid fine powder solid fine powder gray white creamy fishy odor inflammable, luminous , smoky melting no change in color and odor no residue
All soluble in H2o. • all can Change L.P from blue to red . • Strong effervescent with Na2CO3. • All are Acids. • Preliminary test: • Soda lime : fishy odor on hot. • 30 % NaOH: white ppt. oily droplet on cold. • FeCL3 : bulish green ppt. • Conc H2SO4: white ppt. • General test : • Acetylation • Azo dye
Specific test: For aniline Hcl: AgNO3 test: Aniline Hcl +H2O+dil HNO3 +AgNO3→ white crudy ppt. For aniline sulphate: BaCL3 test : Aniline sulphate +H2O +dilHcl +BaCL3→ white ppt.
