Standard 1: Students demonstrate competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities. • Standard 2: Students exhibit responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity setting. NASPE CONTENT STANDARDS

Standard 6: Assessment: The teacher understands and uses multiple methods of assessment to engage learners in their own growth, to monitor learner progress, and to guide the teacher’s and learner’s decision making. • Description: This assignment is a lesson plan created to teach a manipulative skill to an elementary student and documents the steps taken to teach the skill and the methods of teaching and using assessment to achieve the mastery of the manipulative skill. • Rationale: To document my understanding of Standard 6, Assessment, I have selected to include my physical education lesson plan because it demonstrates my ability to create a lesson plan with the proper standards included and to then use assessment to help students achieve the mastery of the manipulative skill INTASC STANDARD
Students will demonstrate eye hand coordination while successfully volleying multiple times with themselves and a partner. STUDENT OBJECTIVES
Balloons • Beach volleyball or foam ball EQUIPMENT
Open area with plenty of space. • Make sure equipment is properly functioning. • Balloons and beach volley balls blown up. PREPARATION
Warm Up • Students will need to warm up through jogging a lap around the gym. • Students will also complete arm and leg stretching to warm up their muscles in preparation of learning to volley. • Teacher will demonstrate how to volley to show students the proper form. INTRODUCTORY FITNESS ACTIVITY
Volley as individuals. • Students will toss the ball to themselves and volley and catch it. Repeat. • Concentrate on keeping the ball centered on their arms and watching the ball with their eyes. • The students will begin using a balloon. LESSON ACTIVITY
Volley with a partner. • Students will then take turns tossing the ball to their partner who will volley it back to them to be caught by the partner who tossed it. • When students are comfortable they will switch to the beach volleyball or foam ball which will increase the difficulty slightly. • Then students will volley the ball back and forth continuing to master the skill. Students will stretch their arms and legs. • Will finish with a walking lap around the gym. • Students are responsible for returning the equipment to their designated area. CLOSING ACTIVITY
To increase the difficulty of the activity, students could be asked to practice volleying over a net. Preparations would need to be made to have one available. They could also move up to an actual volleyball. • To decrease difficulty students could stick to the balloon. They could also practice volleying to themselves against the wall. ACCOMODATIONS
Improper use of equipment. • Students will be made aware of consequences of improper use of equipment. • Close supervision to watch all students • ‘Back to wall’ or ‘move around’ technique. • Correct partner pairing. SAFETY CONCERNS
