13.2 Volume of Pyramids and Cones By Bethany Larson and Eric Humpert
Objectives • To find the volume of cones • To find the volume of pyramids • To be goofy goobers!!!
VOLUME :D Happy face! If a right circular cone has a volume of V cubic units, a height of h units, and a base with an area of B units, then V=⅓Bh An oblique cone will have a height that is from the vertex and perpendicular to the base. DON’T FORGET!! Area of a circle is r² + = FAIL!!!!
Exceptions… • You will need to use trigonometry to find some information of a cone. Don’t worry though, we know you can do it!! Don’t be like Patrick here…
Goober example Squidward needs to find out if Patrick has enough volume for a brain. For Patrick to have a brain he needs to have 2500cm³ of space within his cranium. Use the formula to help him. Patrick’s head has a radius 10cm and a height of 22cm. Assume his head is a right cone. About 2303cm³, so no….
PYRAMIDS!! If a pyramid has a volume of V units, and a height of h units, and a base area of B units, the V=⅓Bh h
Chuck Norris in Bikini Bottom? • That’s right, Chuck Norris. • Everyone knows Chuck Norris built the pyramids, and now, he wants to make one with 3 times the volume of Khufu’s Pyramid. Chuck Norris demands you help, even though he doesn’t need it since he invented geometry.
Khufu Khufu’s base is a regular square with sides of the base that are 755ft, it’s height is 449ft. What is going to be the volume of the new pyramid?? About 255,941,225ft³
