Objectives of the course 1- Developing the professional role of community pharmacist 2- To be able to interact correctly and communicate with patients seeking help at the counter; patient counseling 3- To be able to communicate with other health care providers
Objectives of the course The course therefore, is divided into 2 main parts Part-1 Important topics including, activities of community pharmacists, Prescriptions,dispensing practice, Part-2 Therapeutics of OTC drugs, including different medical conditions usually the pharmacist encountered Practical in the form of Tutorial work
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course (ILOs) a- Knowledge and Understanding: a1- Principles of good prescription practice that is relevant to patient health care delivery system. a2- Common disorders, diseases, problems that are usually encountered in community pharmacies. a3- Treatment guidelines and pharmaceutical care for the individual studied health problems. A4- Principles of over the counter therapeutics.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course (ILOs) b- Intellectual Skills: b1- Interpret and evaluate patient’s condition seeking help at the counter. b2- Sort and evaluate the gained information during patient counseling. b3- Differentiate correctly over the counter between similar conditions.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course (ILOs) c- Professional and Practical Skills: c1- Able to interact correctly with patients seeking help at the counter. c2- Able to identify and resolve drug-related problems. c3- Able to interact correctly with the prescriber through therapeutic intervention c4- Able to differentiate prescription drugs from those OTC. c5- Able to be a guidance for the patient over the counter.
General Objectives of the Practical Course • Understand processes of prescription practice and applications of pharmaceutical care and principles of counseling in Community Pharmacies. • Know common disorders, diseases, problems that are usually encountered in community pharmacies • Understand treatment guidelines and pharmaceutical care for the individual studied health problems. • Interact correctly with patients seeking help at the counter. • Interact correctly with the prescriber through therapeutic intervention.
General Objectives of the Practical Course • Interpret and evaluate patient’s condition seeking help at the counter. • Differentiate correctly over the counter between similar conditions. • Respond to patient’s symptoms in community pharmacy. • Sort and evaluate the gained information during patient counseling to select & provide optimal drug therapy and find effective resolution to patient’ problems • Work effectively in a team. • Use web browsing to locate and use on-line data base.
