Why Automotive Systems? • Ask Yourself: What is the institution’s goal? • Choose programs that can provide students with careers • Choose programs with embedded scaffolding & supports • Consider the current concentration of student interest • Consider stackable credentials already in place within programming (i.e. certificates, diplomas, degrees) • …and a very important note: • Think about what the two areas (Curriculum, Basic Skills) can do for each other both programmatically and ideologically + GED

GED + Automotive Degree • Ask Yourself: What can this program bring to the institution? • Monetarily • GED/AHS/Curriculum student FTE while dually enrolled • GED/AHS graduate allotment • Curriculum FTE after continuing as FT/PT college students • Student Sustainability • This program models students following the continuum from Basic Skills through Curriculum • GED + College Degree maintains a reputation for giving all students a new opportunity- students recruit students + GED

  5. GED + Automotive Degree Ask Yourself: which colleagues would be a good match? • Choose Your Team • Know personalities • Have common goals • Spend time together prior to and outside of developing the program • Build what you consider to be a strong model + GED

GED + Automotive Degree Understand: Good models tend to produce good results • Signs of a Strong Model • Students who see the end have motivation to finish • Programs that are based on strong labor market demand increase the likelihood of student employment • Community building is the foundation of your students’ success in college • Students who appreciate their opportunity will want to give back (i.e. tutoring, mentoring) + GED

GED + Automotive Degree Ask Yourself: Where do I begin?? • Advice From The Partners: • Get to know each other! • Maintain respect for each other’s professions • Discuss your individual goals for the program, then create common goals • Understand this will take a significant amount of your time • Spread the word about your own program at all levels of the institution • and, most importantly… • Remember what you ask of your students: • Keep moving forward with the end product in mind! + GED
