CURRENT TRENDS • Increasing population of non-traditional students • Students have different objectives • degree • certificate • professional development • Students have wide variety of backgrounds • note that we offer courses in over 60 locations • Students have different “needs” to know • one topic may be more important now than another • Students may need to know “parts” from different courses to support them professionally • Students may have different learning styles and abilities • some can learn specific material faster than others
In short, there is a shift from seeking degrees to seeking “Learning” “Learning” encompasses: • Training • Education • Performance Mentoring

GLOBAL ENGINEERING MASTERS International Network for Higher Education in Engineering Kaiserslauten Informatics Helsinki Robotics • DEGREE STRUCTURE • Each institution guarantees a specific engineering specialization offered in English in a given semester • Students must take specialization semesters at two institutions (24 credit hours) • Students must do comprehensive project at any of the institutions (6 credit hours) • ODU will award Master of Engineering to any student who does a specialization semester at ODU • In addition to any M.Sc. Degree awarded by partner institutions • Thus, in some cases, students will be awarded both a U.S. and European degree Borlange Product Innovation Berne Management Vlissingen Logistics Wroclaw Biomedical Annecy Environmental

WHO NEEDS TO KNOW? • Current Students • In appropriate class • Current Practitioners • On the job (needs to know NOW)
WHO KNOWS? • Isolated “narrow” experts (research driven) • Distributed across multiple institutions
CHALLENGE • Bring knowledge needed, when needed, to where it is needed • By the best authorities • In the most effective and efficient manner possible
