"Technology is essential in teaching and learning mathematics; it influences the mathematics that is taught and enhances students' learning." Principles and Standards for School Mathematics (PSSM)
Technology should not be used as a replacement for basic understandings and intuitions; rather, it can and should be used to foster those understandings and intuitions ... In short, technology can help students learn mathematics.
When technology is integrated, you will see.. • Increase in student writing skills • Increase in student participation • Increase in student on-task behavior • Increase in student critical thinking and reasoning skills • A strengthened teacher community • Students have better attitudes towards learning • Students have confidence in their abilities

MyMathLab StudyTitle V • Fall 2005 • Math 0312 & Math 1314 • What is the effect of the assignment of MyMathLab homework upon the achievement of students? • Pretest – Posttest Control Group Experimental Design
Pretest- Math 0312 • Originally contained 20 items. • 5 items were determined to be unreliable and were dropped.
Student Participants • Two instructors taught both a Control Group and Experimental Group • Control Group: 35 Students • Experimental Group: 40 Students
Posttest- Math 0312 • Looked at the first 31 items on the course final exam • The final exam was found to be reliable. KR20 = 0.85
Gender? No Significant Difference
Race? Couldn’t compute since the majority of the students were Hispanic.
Age No Significant Difference
Other Factors? • No Significant Difference • Hours Worked • Motivation • Confidence in Mathematical Abilities • No Significant Difference in Retention
Math 1314 • PRETEST: 16 ITEMS • POSTTEST: 30 ITEMS
Math 1314 • The only no significant difference between the groups. • There is still missing data so actual results may vary.
Spring 2006 • Math 0312: 10 Sections Participating • Math 1314: 10 Sections Participating
