PERIOD 5 LITERATURE MAKE SURE TO PICK UP PACKETS / HANDOUTS! • Take Reading Quiz OR • Turn in annotations to black bin. (You may take the reading quiz for extra credit. If you choose not to do so, sit quietly and continue reading in DOAS)

If Willy never had the affair with The Woman, would Biff have ended up any differently?
Classwork Instructions 1. Read until page ~95 either independently or with a partner. 2. With a partner, complete the Character Evolution Graph. 3. Answer the question with a nuanced response, “If Willy never had the affair with The Woman, would Biff have ended up any differently”? • You may work together with a partner to find your reasons/quotations but must EACH write your answer.
Character Evolution Graph • Pick either BIFF or WILLY to analyze. • Explain… (choose one) • how much respect you have for the character changes throughout the play • the sympathy you have for the character as the play evolves • how complex/complicated the character becomes as the play evolves See my example on the opposite page. I used LINDA as my character example.
Homework (DUE WEDNESDAY) • Read to the end of the play (page 102).Annotate or take the reading quiz tomorrow. • Complete the nuanced response (“If Willy never had the affair with The Woman, would Biff have ended up any differently”?) for tomorrow if NOT done in class.
Examples of Annotations • Poor: I don’t understand why Willy is treating Linda this way. • Poor: Happy is really overlooked by Willy. • Strong: It does not make sense how Willy treats Linda. Linda is always taking care of him and comforting him; he does not seem to be grateful to her. • Strong: Willy does not seem to pay much attention to Happy seems to be so successful but Willy focuses on all his attention on Biff.
Nuanced Answer • Nuanced = deep in level / sophistication • Provides two or more answers from different perspectives • Uses quotations to support each answer. • Uses a transition word/phrase to link together answers.
