But these compounds were harmful to ecosystems and people. In 1995, the government issued a ban on certain chemicals. Products having a shorter expected lifetime, or reduced residual life, have replaced them because they are better for the environment. New insecticides biodegrade more quickly, protecting ecosystems and people.
