Overall aims of course: The main objective of the course is to teach the students the following:- Introduction to major equipment used in petrochemical industries. Pumps, heat exchangers, distillation columns, pressurized vessels and separators. Conveyors, cranes and packaging.
Intended learning outcomes of course (ILOs( a- Knowledge and understanding: • a3 List the different types of equipments • a8-I Define heat exchangers and distillation columns • a8-ii Describe pumps construction (for liquid transfer) • a8-iii Describe compressors construction (for gas transfer) • a8-iv Identify pressure vessels focusing on their codes and special metallurgical requirement
b- Intellectual skills: • B2 Calculate the efficency of equipments that are used in • pumps / compressors petroleum/ petrochemical streams • B6 Compare between different type of pumps • B7 Solve problems for calculation of power required • B8 Calculate the discharge head achieved
d- General and transferable skills: • d3 Propose mathematical techniques ,chemical principals • d6 Estimate design bases • d9 Practice the use of performance curves
