SERDC Mission The mission of the Corporation is to unite industry professionals, organizations, government agencies and individuals engaged in the business of recycling; to foster communications amongst those groups; to promote sustainable recycling programs; and, to coordinate education and public awareness activities related to recycling.

  21. Example 1: Low level effort Columbia, SC Committed Community Transition to carts. Robust MRF Processing Strong MRF, no action needed. Private/Public Partnership Use private sector’s investments & need for material to build champions within the public sector. Strong End Markets The Southeast has strong demand for recyclables, no action needed. Supportive Policy Work with state legislation to pass supportive policy (possible landfill ban on containers). Thoughtful Outreach Good state level outreach. Program changes call for communications push on local level.

  22. Example 2: High level effort Mobile, AL Committed Community Needs curbside collection and roll carts. Hub and spoke would support surrounding communities. Robust MRF Processing Currently has no MRF. Private/Public Partnership Excellent grant structure from ADEM. Strong End Markets The Southeast has strong demand for recyclables, no action needed. Supportive Policy Work with state legislation to pass supportive policy (possible landfill ban on containers). Thoughtful Outreach State level: school recycling challenge. Needs strong local outreach.
