  1. Women in mathematics

  2. Please ,can somebody enumerate three mathematicians ?

  3. Euler • Gauss • Pitagora • Cauchy • Newton • Lagrange • Riemann....

  4. Please, can somebody enumerate three female mathematicians?

  5. Teano • Hipatija • Maria Gaetana Agnes • Marie Sophie Germain • Mary Everest Boole • Sofija Vasiljevna Kovalevska • Emmy Amalie Noether • Louise Hay • Julia Bauman Robinson

  6. Why aren’t names of female mathematicians famous like names of male mathematicians? Here are some answeres : Men first were hunters and they evolved the ability to oriente in space. People felt that it is not appropriate to see a woman deals with math or any other science.

  7. Some women were killed because of their teaching. Some women didn’t have enough money to go to school. A lot of them were daughters of famous mathematicians. . . .

  8. Now I am going to tell you something about female mathematicians who succeded in their plans and had a huge influence on development of mathematics.

  9. Teano

  10. Teano was born in Greece in fifth century before Christ. • Pythagoras wife. • dealed with mathematics, physics and medicine for children. • After Pythagoras death she kept Pythagorean School . • Principle of the golden mean was her famous work.

  11. Hipatija

  12. Hipatija was born in Alexandria. • Teon’s daughter ( famous mathematician Teon had a huge influence on her). • Some people think that he wanted to raise a perfect human being. • She wrote comments on famous works such as Arithmetic of Diophantus, Appolonius’ conics.

  13. Her most known work was about conics which later contributed to the development of parabola, hyperbola and ellipse. • Some believe that she and her father wrote a new edition of Euclid’s Elements. • At the end of fourth century broke a conflict between two religious. Cyril, leader of Christians, and Orestes, the civil governor, were rivals. In 415. Hipatija was killed

  14. because she was Orestes friend. She was stoned to death, taken to pieces and burned. Somebelieve that she was killed because people were jealous and couldn't stand a fact that woman can be so intelligent and powerful.

  15. Maria Gaetana Agnes

  16. Maria Gaetana Agnes was an italian mathematician. • the oldest of twenty one children • wanted to enable women to have education like men • wrote Instituzioni analitiche-the main textbook of mathematical analysis • best known for curve called Versiera

  17. Versiera equation :

  18. Surface under the curve is πa2 and is four time bigger then surface of the circle with centre in point (0,a/2) and radius a/2.

  19. Sophie Germain

  20. born in France • was thrilled with legend of Archimedes death and decided to study math • used pseudonym M.LeBlanc while she was communicating with Lagrange and Gauss • had a big influence in proving a Great theorem of Fermot • prime numbers p for which number 2p+1 is also prime are named after her

  21. Today many female mathematicians work in different parts of mathematics. They are organized in group called The Association for Womenin Mathematics - AWM. The aim is to encourage women to engage in math .
