ADEIL Awards Each year, ADEIL presents a number of awards recognizing excellence in various aspects of distance education and independent learning. Award winners receive a certificate and a monetary prize. Award categories: • College Level Course Award • High School Course Award • Excellence in Support Services Award • Research Award If you are a current ADEIL member, next year consider nominating an outstanding staff member from your institution or colleague in the field, or perhaps submitting a course or research project. Awards will be presented at the annual ADEIL conference held in Oxford, MS, Oct. 15-17, 2019.
College Level Course Award The ADEIL College Level Course Award honors the most outstanding college level credit course that opened during the previous year. The award recognizes the accomplishment of the instructor, author, primary editor and/or course developer who worked together to create an exemplary course. This includes any distance education or online learning course that may be online or print-based using a study guide. The awards committee evaluates the overall design, content, learning activities, and assessments for each entry. The award includes a $50 prize and a certificate.

Ruth really considered her students’ needs when making design decisions in this course.”

Raines, Ph.D., Instructor, and Kerry O’Donoghue, instructional designer “All students are required to find Quirks of the Week, which are interesting grammatical items to be pondered while working through advanced English grammar. The intent is not to "solve" grammar but to take note of all the diversity of English, making the somewhat dry grammatical concepts more alive and relevant to students’ lives.”

To make a completely online camping course relevant and useful to Parks and Recreation students, Mr. Waddell included three unique and interesting projects: a campsite evaluation, a campcraft skills presentation video, and a campout journal and presentation.”

Excellence in Support Service Award The Excellence in Support Service Award is given to an individual who has contributed to support a distance education/independent learning unit, with possible implications for other institutions. The award recognizes the person’s outstanding contributions and innovations to a distance education program via courses, recruitment, orientation, etc. Persons who may qualify for consideration are instructional designers or developers, information technologists, and IT or enrollment support staff. The award includes a $50 prize and a certificate.
