  2. The Atheist’s Answer • There is no god. • Atheists reject the idea of a Supreme Being, preferring to look for objective scientific explanations for the world, life, and death.

  3. The Agnostic’s Answer. • It is impossible to know whether or not there is a god. • Only can be seen to be real can be understood. • Agnostics claim that there is no evidence for the existence of god.

  4. The Humanist’s Answer. • There is no need for god since there is no higher moral power that people themselves. • Humanists reject religion in favor of the advancement of humanity by its own efforts.

  5. The skeptic’s Answer. • It is not possible to know anything for certain. • Skeptics doubt the truth of religions.

  6. The Believer’s Answer. • Yes, there is a God. For most believers, faith replaces the need for proof of God’s existence. • For others, various arguments have been made that claim to prove the existence of God:

  7. Many Gods • The controller of some part of the Universe. • The controller of a particular aspect of life. • The personification of a force, of nature.

  8. Religions that have more than one god are polytheistic. • Hinduism • Ancient Greek and Roman religions. • Yoruba religion (Nigeria) • Aztec Religion

  9. One God • The Supreme being. • The creator and ruler of everything. • Eternal, spiritual, and transcendent.

  10. Religions that have only one God are monotheistic. • Christianity • Judaism • Islam • Sikhism • Zoroastrianism

  11. Human God. At the head of some religions are individuals believed to be God or to be a divine representative of God. • The head of the Tibetan religion, the Dalai Lama, is believed to be imbued with the spirit of the Buddha. • The emperor of Japan was considered to be divine until this aspect of the Shinto religion was outlawed in 1945. • Haile Selassie (1892-1975). Emperor of Ethiopia(1930-36, 1941-74), is considered to be the only true God by Rastafarians. • Jesus is considered to be fully human and fully divine.
