  1. Random Pieces of Information • As submitted by Academy teachers…

  2. Park in the back at your own risk. At least one car a year is damaged by an errant golf ball 

  3. Manuel Reyes handles keys and textbooks

  4. Robbin gets way too excited about UT football 

  5. Don't be afraid to ask for help - your fellow teachers want to help you!

  6. The cafeteria's apple crisp is cheap & REALLY GOOD! :)

  7. Each team will receive a budget that will be split among the teachers on that team. You won’t have access to it until September, though 

  8. Check out Angela Steven’s blog… http://musingsfromtheacademy.wordpress.com

  9. "Students often think the techs office is the local "hangout".  Take notice of how often and how long students are at the techs."

  10. "The cost to replace your printer's ink cartridge comes out of your budget.  These cost $200.  Print wisely!"

  11. The Academy didn’t have school colors, a mascot, or a logo until we became a stand alone school three years ago. The Academy colors are black, white, and silver. Still no mascot, though…

  12. There are men and women’s faculty locker rooms in the PE facility. Ron Alvey can get you a locker…

  13. Busses for field trips need to be requested three weeks ahead of time. Ask Michel Sanchez…

  14. There is a stairway on the far north of the building, but we ask students not to use it.

  15. There is a faculty book exchange in the library. Ask Marlee Clark or Gloria Willingham for details

  16. PACE stands for Professional Advisories in Career Education

  17. Students who take classes at the other schools in Irving (band, athletics, etc.) are often referred to as “commuters”

  18. Take care of yourself.  If you're sick, stay home.  No one expects you to work when you don't feel good.

  19. Although necessary at times, twelve-hour days are generally ridiculous.  Go home.  (Watching Grey's Anatomy makes grading a whole lot more fun anyway!)

  20. If you have trouble with your printer or projector, contact Logan and/or Michael (x8122). They are great!

  21. The library has books on CD for check out. Great when you have a long commute.

  22. Tech Tuesdays are great resources for learning all that new software, plus we get credit for attending.

  23. The butcher paper is in the copy room, which is on the second floor.

  24. Calls from the Academy are “private” and can be blocked. When calling parents dial *82 to disable this feature.

  25. The building engineer is named Stanley Payne

  26. There are faculty groups for volleyball (see Michelle Trigg), racquetball (see Eric Creeger), and running (see Michel Sanchez).

  27. The Rattaree Center is a building in South Irving where some of our students take automotive and cosmetology classes

  28. In 2003, Microsoft recognized the Academy’s use of technology by naming them their first annual “Center of Excellence” in technology usage in education.

  29. During lunch periods (3rd and 7th), we ask students not to use the south stair ways to avoid disrupting classes.

  30. Our building is shared with Northlake college so you have to assume there will be classes in your room at night and on weekends.

  31. The superintendent of IISD is named Jack Singley

  32. In addition to the main copier on the 2nd floor, there are two in the 3rd floor office and one in the first floor team room. These are smaller and less capable, but are handy if you need a handful of copies and the main machine is busy or broken.

  33. If you need a lot of copies, you can save wear on our copier by requesting them from the district print shop…

  34. Stay away from re-inventing the wheel as much as you can - try searching Google for PowerPoints, etc. that you can use (or modify to suit your needs) instead of making your own.

  35. Lean on your “team leader.” They can save your life

  36. Every six weeks we do a hamburger cookout for kids who pass all of their classes and get >85 on ES. Teachers are always invited!

  37. The Byron Nelson takes place in April on the golf course behind our building (Sorry, the building is closed that weekend )

  38. District e-mail addresses are sorted by first name, not last

  39. We have two campus technicians (Michael Wood and Logan Crouch) that handle all computer, projector, and printer repairs. Basically, if it is hardware, they fix it…

  40. Take the time to learn how to use Blackboard beyond a very basic level - it's a time investment up front, but it pays off later!

  41. Cut yourself some slack.  You can't do it all your first year.  (And yes, they knew that when they hired you!)

  42. The laminating machine is in the third floor team room, but you have to check out the roller from the main office.

  43. PACE stands for Professional Advisories in Career Education.

  44. "Prepare to gain a few pounds from all the wonderful FREE food provided throughout the year! (cookouts, luncheons, desserts, etc)"

  45. There is a conference room known as a “team room” on each floor (157, 206, 354)
