  2. A sandwich is two slices of bread with a filling in between. It is often coated with a fat-based spread, such as mayonnaise, butter, or cream cheese.

  3. TYPES OF SANDWICHES

  4. 1. CLUB –Made with 3 slices of bread and 2 layers of filling. The classic club has mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato, bacon and turkey. Ingredients can be varied.

  5. 2. Open-face sandwich – Has just one slice of bread and a topping

  6. 3. Hero sandwich – A very large sandwich made on a loaf of Italian or French bread. Layered with an assortment of thinly sliced meats, cheese, and vegetables.

  7. 4. Wrap –Sandwiches made by wrapping or folding a filling in flatbread. • Types of Wraps include: • -- Pita – A round, leavened flatbread from the Middle East that is rolled. • Falafel – A Middle Eastern filling for pita. Consists of small, deep-fried patties made with highly seasoned, ground garbanzo beans.

  8. Gyro – A Greek specialty made with slices of minced roasted lamb, grilled onions, sweet peppers and a cucumber-yogurt sauce wrapped in a pita. • Lavash – An Armenian flatbread that is flatter and larger than a pita. The filling is spread on and then folded. • Tortilla – A thin, round, unleavened flatbread made with corn or wheat flour. It is a staple in Mexican and Central American cooking.

  9. Hot Sandwiches • Cooked filling – Examples are hamburgers, hot dogs • Grilled – Example is grilled cheese • Broiled – Examples are tuna melt or tomato melt.

  10. Tea Sandwiches – Also called a finger sandwich often served at receptions and parties.
