(ruler holds power) Anocratic: country that is not fully democratic, but not fully autocratic. (power is shared, not necessarily equally) Key Difference: 1) Selection of leaders; 2) Participation of citizenship; 3) Checks and balances

Oligarchy: power is controlled by small group of individuals. Dictatorship: power & control come from use of the military to “prop” up the leader Totalitarian State: extreme form of dictatorship where leader has total control of a society Theocracy: the use of religious authority to justify use of power
