TALGO EXPERIENCE ON 1520 mm • In 1520 area Talgo has commercial experience since 2002 • Talgo is currently involved in projects of last generation and high speeds trains in Russia, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan • RUSSIA • Talgo to supply last generation passenger trains: • 4 trains to cover the route Moscow - Kiev. • 3 trains - route Moscow - Berlin with variable gauge system Talgo RD. • The trains carries out the gauge change automatically. The passengers remain on the train.
TALGO EXPERIENCE ON 1520 mm • UZBEKISTAN • 2011 – Started commercial service between Tashkent & Samarkand with Talgo 250 trains. Maximum speed 250 Km/h • These trains are similar to those used in Spain • KAZAKHSTAN • Talgo trains since 2002 between Astana and Almaty • Project for the manufacturing of 12 trains, of 35 coaches each, with Talgo technology. Part of the manufacturing of these trains is being carried out locally.

TALGO EXPERIENCE: Technology Transfer • 1) Transfer of information • Concerning the product and the manufacturing processes • Example: Drawings, tehcnical specs. • 2) Training of personnel of local factories • Specificknowledgeabouttheproductto be manufactured and theprocessesto be used. • Evenwhen local employeeswerequalified in technicalschools, specifictrainningisnecessary. • In additiontothetrainning, itcould be necessarythatpersonnel of local factories and expertpersonnelfromthemanufacturerworktogether a sufficientamount of time.

Components provided by external suppliers are required. • Buying components from local suppliers facilitates the manufacturing management and contributes to the economic growth. • Local suppliers has to produce components: • With a technology according to the train • With the required level of quality • The local supplier should have a qualified management system • To achieve this objectives local suppliers have to take part in the technological transfer process. Conclusion: Technology transfer for localizing manufacturing is not only a transfer of information. It is a process and it needs some time to evolve.
TALGO EXPERIENCE: Technology Transfer • 4) Certification procedures and technical regulations • Certification process of passanger trains: • Involves not only the train but also the critical components • Includes all development stages from the design to track tests (through manufacturing) • If local standards were very different than original ones, it could be necessary to modify the technology before the transfer. • If local standards were similar to original ones, and moreover, if original certificates were partially recognized the technological transfer process would be much simpler. Conclusion: Certification standards plays an important role in technological transfer. Attention: Trains between the area 1520 and Western Europe.
