  4. General theme:FOCUS ON THE SMALLEST..... UNDERSTAND THE GLOBAL All areas of research are welcome. Special aim: Bring to the Nanno community the i) Plankton biological and ecological scientific community (following the CODENET initiative); ii) Physical oceanography scientific community.

  5. Everybody’s invited …

  6. brand new facilities (ready by the end of 2003)

  7. As well as many old historical monuments …

  8. Support (so far ...): FCT – Foundation for Science and Tecnology of the Ministry of Science of Portugal; Lisbon Town Hall; University of Lisbon. Hidrographic Institute Portuguese Fisheries Institute Logistics: Mainly “home made” (keep costs low)

  9. plenty of coccos dwelling around

  10. 1-day scientific cruise for the living stuff

  11. Field trips to dinosaur track sites (e.g. Galinha quarry, Middle Jurassic limestones)

  12. some of which related to local religious traditions… (e.g. Upper Jurassic and Lower Cretaceous sections of Espichel Cape, ~40 km south of Lisbon)

  13. to some of the Jurassic most important sections (Peniche, Coimbra, Cabo Mondego)…

  14. and to some of the Mesozoic …

  15. … and Neogene sections around Lisbon (Peninsula de Arrábida).

  16. Proposed dates • 29th August to 4 September 2004 Fully compatible with the: • 8th International Conference on Paleoceanography (Biarritz, France), 5 – 10 September, 2004; • 23rd IAS Meeting of Sedimentology (Coimbra, Portugal), 15 – 17 September, 2004;

  17. SINTRA (Unesco World Heritage village) Cultural and turistic excursions, by day....

  18. LISBOA (e.g. Down Town square of Rossio) and night life (by night, obviously ....)

  19. Good Food together with ...

  20. Good wine as well as ...

  21. Vote well...and may the best proposal win. The Portuguese team(a very new team, eager to learn from all of you and completely enthusiastic about the idea of welcoming you here at Lisbon)
