What is Shrove Tuesday • Shrove Tuesday is the last Tuesday before Lent begins. • In the past there were lots of foods that Christians would not eat during Lent. These included meat, fish, eggs, fats and milky foods • So that no food was wasted, families would have a feast on Shrove Tuesday to use up all the foods that wouldn’t keep until the end of the 40 days of Lent • Pancakes were a good way of using up • fat, milk and eggs just by adding flour
