  1. Kinesiotape was developed 25 years ago by Dr. KenzoKase of Japan. He developed a tape with the goals of reducing joint problems, improving circulation, and reducing pain. He named his tape “Kinesiotape”, and developed specific taping protocols, for joint and muscle injuries. Kinesiotape has the elasticity of skin allowing it to move with a person, through their daily lives. The proper application of this tape may help the body recruit specific muscles, aid in pain reduction, improve circulation, reduce healing time, and help prevent injury. There are many different ways to apply the tape to achieve those specific goals. The far left picture below demonstrates taping for swelling or may also be used for bruising it is known as the basket weave. The far right picture is for quad facilitation and patellar space correction, this would be used to improve knee pain and is the base of a taping used for knee stability. Kristin Leese, PTA, at Hanover Family Practice is certified in Kinesiotape application. To learn more about the service, she may be consulted at 717-633-5075.
