Exchangeable Multimedia Framework for Digital Library in Medicine • 英文摘要 • Because of the advancement of medical technology, we can now obtain a variety of information from the human body with great details. For example, modern techniques such as the digital radiography, computer tomography and magnetic resonance imaging have captured lots of information from human body. In this study, we have developed a multimedia framework that manages a wealth of medical information through the Internet and presents the information in a digital museum/library system. The multimedia framework has the capability of exchanging, storing, retrieving, presenting and managing medical multimedia information. To realize the object described above, the framework was designed to be composed of three parts: the presentation module, the description of data (metadata), and the multimedia database. The metadata was created by using the Dublin Core standard to describe the multimedia information. The metadata was well defined so that it is very convenient to search and exchange data between systems. Different Dublin Core extensions were added for the files with different types and formats. We used XSL to extract Metadata in XML format, so that the presentation style can be changed depending on different XSL definition. Open Archives Initiative is an open protocol for Metadata harvesting. The OAI protocol was used to implement the exchangeable Metadata. • With this exchangeable open architecture, medical multimedia data can be manipulated in many different ways and can become reusable for different purpose. The framework developed in this study has great contributions in the fields of Digital Library, medical education and medical research.
