What are the issues with Sound? • The propagation is one of the issues that we worked with. Propagation is is when sound travels through a medium as its intensity diminishes with distance • The Attenuation is generally proportional to the square of sound frequency. It is the combined effect of scattering and absorption.
Purpose • The purpose of our experiment was to find if there are any differences with in the sound frequency as it travels horizontal versus vertically.
We used the same recorder The same car was used throughout the experiment Approximately the same temperature during the trials The sound frequency analyzer we used was from Reliable Software We got sound samples at different distances horizontally as well as vertically Procedure
Analysis • According to our graph results we concluded that sound frequency tends to decrease at a more rapid rate going vertically rather than the decreasing in sound horizontally • This result is for a high frequency of 2,900 Hz
Conclusion • We were expecting the sound to remain the same throughout the distances • Because of the air pressure that is in the sky and other factors like the wind, and the fact that temperature changes as the balloon rises our results were different. It was clear that the frequency changes drops faster at a constant rate rather than it does horizontally.
