New Foundation High School Plan FHSP (Foundation High School Plan) is designed to : • Instill flexibility in public education by enabling students to either pursue a traditional path into colleges and universities or move directly into the workforce • Allow students to earn endorsements related to their desired career field Student in Cohorts 2015, 2016, and 2017 will have the option of graduating staying on the Recommended High School Plans or changing to the new Foundation High School Plans Cohort 2018 (Current 9th graders) will only graduate on the new Foundation High School Plans
Required Assessments For Class of 2015+ • English I • English II • Algebra I • US History • Biology • *Students must meet Level II Standard on all 5 EOCs to meet graduation requirements

Four Year Plan www.bridges.com • Go with your child to www.bridges.com • Reviewtheir choice of career area • Review their classes selected for next year • Course requests are uploaded from plans
Course Basics Select enough courses to fill 7 periods Use a combination of year-long and/or semester-long courses Consider graduation requirements (foreign language, fine art, PE, speech, and electives) Consider their career goals Find pre-requisites If two semesters average to a 70 the student will receive 1 full year of credit Students receive 0.5 credits a semester for each class they successfully pass

Athletic Considerations • Only one athletic period at a time • There are tryouts for most sports • Some athletic programs begin in the summer – Check athletics page on website towards end of year. (Ex: Football, Cross Country, Volleyball) • If you do not make the team, you will be placed in PE • All athletics require a PHYSICAL EXAM every year

Schedule Change Policy • During the school year, a student may request a change in course level only at certain times of the semester according to District policy. • Before a change in level request can be made: • Student, parent(s), and teacher must conference • No missing assignments and must attend tutorials

AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) • What is AVID? • A college preparatory that places students with potential in advanced classes and provides them with critical support • All AVID students are required to be in at least one advanced course (PreAP, AP, Dual) while enrolled in the program. National Honor Society National Honor Society is an honor and privilege extended by the faculty to deserving students of Kingwood Park High School. Invitation given to students beginning fall of Sophomore year if they have an overall Cumulative GPA of 4.0 and meet certain criteria Must apply for membership and prove both leadership and service Leadership points may be earned through: Leadership/Officer positions in clubs, leading service projects, lettering, KP Merit Awards, and leadership conferences Service points may be earned through: Club and organization membership, athletics, fine arts, FFA, StuCo, community groups, and community service For detailed info, visit NHS website located on KPark Webpage under the ACTIVITES tab.
