Our Mission • The Royal Canadian Mounted Police Drug Awareness Service is committed to making communities safe and healthy by reducing substance abuse and its related problems.
Commitment to Communities • A balanced approach to prevention includes education, enforcement and treatment. • Providing factual information on substance abuse issues. • Supporting enforcement initiatives. • Encouraging, mobilizing and supporting community-driven initiatives that reflect our Mission, Vision, Beliefs.
Drugs Beyond the workplace • Alcohol and Tobacco alone cost our economy billions • Over 400 highway deaths, 23% involve alcohol (53% for single vehicle collisions) • Recent study of BC fatal collisions showed 1 in 10 involved drugs, in excess of 50 % showed marihuana present.
Drugs Beyond the workplace • Domestic violence and break up • Assaults and Criminal activity • Does this get left at home, and never enter the workplace?
Why is the RCMP involved in this partnership? • Drug Prevention is a continuum across the Community, from cradle to grave. • Recognize that the workplace is a major component of every Community. • Successful prevention or treatment intervention has an impact on crime.
