  5. Symbols are powerful ways of getting other people to understand you without even trying = Using that common knowledge, you can use a boat to “symbolize” a group of people Boats are vehicles built by people to move people to other places over water

  6. Once you know that the symbol represents something else, you can do things with the symbol and communicate complex messages very quickly. =

  7. Some symbols emphasize a quality or trait for what is being related through symbol

  8. Using this idea, that an image ties together meanings, discuss what this image could mean. What do you see? What does it mean?
