Romans 1:1-7 Paul, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, CALLED to be an apostle, separated to the gospel of God 2 which He promised before through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures, 3 concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh, 4 and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead. 5 Through Him we have received grace and apostleship for obedience to the faith among all nations for His name, 6 among whom you also are the CALLED of Jesus Christ; 7 To all who are in Rome, beloved of God, CALLED to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

  3. CHRISTIANS ARE CALLED (II)

  4. WHAT ARE YOU CALLED • Did you have a nickname as a child? Now? • Nicknames for characteristics: Slim, Chubby, Speedy, Red, Einstein etc. • Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. • Jesus would be called these things. Nicknames. • We’re going to look at what Christians are called in the scriptures and discover some of our characteristics.

  5. I. CHILDREN FOR KINSHIP • 1 John 3:1-2 Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. 2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.

CHILDREN FOR KINSHIP • Romans 9:23-26 and that He might make known the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy, which He had prepared beforehand for glory, 24 even us whom He called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles? 25 As He says also in Hosea: "I will call them My people, who were not My people,And her beloved, who was not beloved."26 "And it shall come to pass in the place where it was said to them,'You are not My people,'There they shall be called sons of the living God."

SAINTS FOR HOLINESS • 1 Corinthians 1:2 To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all who in every place call on the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours: • 1 Peter 1:14-15 as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; 15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, • Jude 1:1 Jude, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, To those who are called, sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ

  8. III. CHRISTIANS FOR IDENTIFICATION • Acts 11:26 And when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. So it was that for a whole year they assembled with the church and taught a great many people. And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch. • 1 Peter 4:16 Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this matter. • Christian = Christ I Ain’t Nothing

BRETHREN FOR FELLOWSHIP • Hebrews 2:11 For both He who sanctifies and those who are being sanctified are all of one, for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren, • 1 Corinthians 1:9 God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

  10. V. SHEEP FOR CHARACTER • John 10:3 To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. • John 10:27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.

SERVANTS FOR EMPLOYMENT • Matthew 25:14 "For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them. • John 13:13-16 You call me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am. 14 If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. 16 Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him.

  12. VII. FRIENDS FOR COMPANIONSHIP • James 2:23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness." And he was called the friend of God. • John 15:15 No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.

YOUR CALLING? • Ephesians 4:1-6 I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, 2 with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, 3 endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. • Colossians 3:15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. • IF WE CALL OURSELVES CHRISTIANS, WE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE TRUE TO THAT CALLING

  14. HAVE A WEEK WORTHY OF YOUR CALLING
