How to use Flickr Two ways: 1-Without an account: Go to www.flickr.com/commons/ a-The commons were created to increase access to publicly held images b-To have people contribute to the knowledge base about existing images Search using FullText or using Tags Can view using small, medium, or detailed views. The detailed views give descriptors such as type (black and white), size, date, local call number. Etc. Can comment on the photo, add tags, make it a fave if you have an account. Also tells you licensing information and the location or source. Can add notes or view others notes on specific images. Can view as a slideshow
How to use Flickr (part 2) With an account: 1-Go to www.flickr.com a-If you already have a yahoo ID, sign in with it b-Create a new account where you can personalize your profile with time zone and gender information 2-Upload photos (100 MB photo and 2 video limit per month-or you can upgrade subscription) a-Browse to stored photos on your hard drive or other media b-Choose your privacy settings for these photos. You can view advanced privacy features too c-Add more photos to the list or upload the current list d-A status bar appears at bottom of screen and will tell you when it is finished e-You can add a descriptor, title, and tag here. You can also create a set.
How to use Flickr (part 2 cont.) To add more photos or add photos at a later time, browse to the “You” on the top menu bar. Click the drop down triangle to see more options. To upload photos using FlickrUploadr, go to the Flickr main page, scroll down scroll down to Help and choose Tools. Here is a brief tutorial.
How to use Flickr (Part 2 cont) • To find detailed information on a photo, double click and click the link to the right, above the map. Camera information, date settings, and geo-tagged information can be found here. • Organization and Access: • Photostream-Your images that you have uploaded • Sets-Photo groupings • Contacts-Connections to your Flickr account • Groups-Connection groupings or groups you are interested in • Favorites-Items you have tagged as favorites, for recall later. Like bookmarks • Comments-Place where others can make statements on your images • Tags-Descriptors useful for finding later. Not controlled vocabulary • Annotations-add notesto specific areas of the photo for detailed information • Geotagging-Adding a location to your photo. Some phones and cameras do this automatically.
