  4. What Operating System is required? • Windows 98 • Windows 98SE • Windows ME • Windows NT 4.0 • Windows 2000 • Windows XP • Windows Server 2003 • Red Hat Linux 8.0 and later • (and a few other Linux packages) • Mac OS X 10.1.x • Mac OS X 10.2.x and later

  5. Why is it free? • Open source (http://www.opensource.org) • OpenOffice • Linux • Apache • MySQL • PHP

  6. Why is OpenSource a good thing? • Because the code is make public, anyone can modify it and/or create extensions for the program. • A community of developers works to find bugs and make improvements.

  7. Why was Firefox created? • To provide an alternative to Microsoft Internet Explorer. • To create a more secure browsing experience. • To provide users with features which were previously unavailable to most.

  8. How is it more secure? • Unlike Internet Explorer, Firefox is not integrated with the operating system. • It does not support ActiveX controls and VBScripts (these are known to have security holes).
