11. The Alumni Interview Roughly 25% of our total applicant pool chooses to have an informal interview with either the counseling staff or alumni volunteers. While these interviews are important they are not a required component of our admission process. To that end we ALWAYS stress that admission interviews are informational and the purpose of the interview is to personally address each student’s concerns and questions.

14. Carnegie Mellon Admission 101 Admission Plans:
1. Early Decision- Ideal for students for whom Carnegie Mellon is their first choice. If admitted to the University, students are in a binding agreement to enroll. Roughly 15% of our enrolled students use the Early Decision plan. Students are only considered for their FIRST CHOICE college through Early Decision.
Deadlines: November 1 and December 1 (for CIT, H&SS, IS, MSC, SCS, and Tepper). CFA - November 1 only. *There is NO Early Decision option for Acting, Voice, Piano, Flute, Musical Theatre, or the BXA programs
2. Regular Decision- The most common plan used by students applying to Carnegie Mellon. Students may apply to up to 5 of the colleges at once, most students apply to 3 or less. Decisions are made separately for each college/program a student applies for
3. Earl Admission- only for students who will have exhausted the options offered by their high school at the end of Junior year. These students are planning to skip Senior year and go straight into a college or university.
