Consensus Conference Goals Participants to: • Guide development of core competencies and specify project planning tenets • Suggest strategies to reach targeted users for inclusion in the development, review, and dissemination of the model • Promote the project with partners and constituent groups and, likewise, share ideas and concerns from such with ASPH

  7. What is ASPH? … the only national organization representing the deans, faculty and students of the 41 accredited schools of public health and other programs seeking accreditation as schools of public health.

ASPH Aims in this Project • Respond to new perspectives regarding the field of global health • Promote that global health is public health • Clarify the role of academic public health within a systems approach to global health • Advance key principles of global health as part of a comprehensive strategy • Identify and specify core competencies for voluntary use by academic institutions

  11. Target Audiences In the first phase, ASPH will develop competencies for masters-level students in global health programs for use by graduate academic institutions. In the second phase, ASPH will seek to globalize the existing MPH core and cross-cutting competencies and consider globalization of the general MPH curriculum.

  12. Charge to Conference Participants • Discuss and identify critical educational domains for a core global health competency learning model • Discuss and specify key planning tenets and/or guidelines to guide the competency development process

  13. Preliminary Planning Tenets • Aim for an inclusive and transparent competency development process • Reflect and build upon existing competency models • Communicate ongoing competency development efforts with global colleagues • Plan for the resulting competency model to be used as a benchmark for the field
