Who takes CTE courses? • 2006-2007 School Year • 76% (160,938) of Arkansas students in grades 7-12 enrolled in at least one CTE course • 2005-2006 School Year • 74% (156,226) of Arkansas students in grades 7-12 enrolled in at least one CTE course • 2004-2005 School Year • 75% enrolled in at least one CTE course
CTE Graduation Rate • 2005-2006 Graduation Rate for CTE Concentrators – 91% • 2004-2005 Graduation Rate for CTE Concentrators (2 units in an occupational area) – 90.1% • 2004-2005 Graduation Rate for State – 81.3%

Teacher Certification2006-2007 • IC3 and MOS – 459 exams were given at 3 testing sessions ( November, March and June) • Three testing events: • Fall – 90% pass rate • Spring – 84% pass rate • Summer – 87%
2007-2008 Program Emphasis • Teacher Certification – IC3 and MOS • Schools Becoming Testing Sites • Student Certification – IC3, MOS, CIW, ORACLE • Add CIW and ORACLE endorsements to teacher license • Developing Articulation Agreements • Introducing New Input Technologies
Challenges • Maintaining enrollment in CTE courses when more and more emphasis is being placed on academic courses. • Developing a mindset for teachers, students, administrators and parents of rigor and relevance in CTE courses. • Emphasizing the importance of students becoming completers in a career focus.
Challenges • Encourage school districts to require one unit of computer technology which emphasizes applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook) as a graduation requirement. • Computerized Business Applications or Computer Applications I & II
Challenges • Implement Input Technologies into Current Arkansas Keyboarding Frameworks. • Current technologies include speech recognition; handwriting recognition tools, such as Table PCs; scanners; PDAs, and other handheld devices. Educators must provide instruction on a variety of input technologies for successful academic, professional, and personal applications.
