The beginning • Clean yourself • Wear Ihram garments • White cloth, un-sewn, wrapped around body
Trip to Ka’bah • Pilgrims walk to Ka’bah to perform Tawaf(seven trips around) touching the black stone
Black Stone • The black stone in the Ka’bah • The stone is believed to be a remnant of the Mosque that Abraham and Ishmael built
Performing the Sa’ee • The devotional act of walking 7 times between knolls in Ka’bah • Walking represents the footsteps of Hagar trying to get water for her son Ishmael
Trip to Mina • A 3 mile walk from Ka’bah • Pilgrim must recite daily prayers
End of Day Two • Pilgrims stay overnight in Mina
Trip to Mount of Mercy • Pilgrims walk to Arafat plain-9 miles from Mina • Mount of Mercy is the location of the last speech given by the prophet
Prayer and Reading • Pilgrims pray and read the Quran all day at Arafat • Pilgrims stay at Arafat until sunset
Muzdalifah • After leaving Arafat, the pilgrims walk to Muzdalifah • Muzdalifah is 1/2 between Mina and Arafat • Pilgrims collect at least 70 pebbles for throwing
Stoning • Pilgrims take stones to throw at three different pillars • The pillars represent the devil • The pilgrims are stoning the devil
Cutting Hair • Pilgrims cut their hair as part of the hajj • Men typically shave head from the right to left • Women will cut at least 1”
Sacrifice • Pilgrims must pick an animal to sacrifice • Sheep, cow, or camel are the most common animals • Great feast is held • 1/3 of meat is eaten, 1/3 of meat is given to poor, 1/3 of the meat is an offering
Drinking from Zamzam • Pilgrims drink water from Zamzam area • After that is done the first two rituals are repeated at the Kabah • The water symbolizes the water that Hagar found for Ishmael
