Encourages development of positive attitudes toward Francophone and other cultural groups, increases students' awareness of their own cultures. Teacher’s role and impact -Careers in commerce, hospitality, tourism, teaching (shortage of French teachers!) -English skills/ vocab, pick up Spanish or other lang easily - “Why do they do it backwards?” -These reasons Motivate adults/teachers: Adults say : “I wish I had paid attention in French class. Teacher’s role and impact People do what they enjoy doing and feel competent doing: Students, teachers, everybody! “I just couldn’t find time to get it done!” People will do what they enjoy doing and feel competent doing. Amazing power! “I love French” “ I ___French” When asked why, “because of my teacher” Students are growing up with a belief system about an entire language, cultures, peoples, provinces, other countries, which they often base upon their classroom experiences with French instruction and their teachers. French is not just another subject. “I’ll never go there because they speak French there.” “I’ll never go to IMAX because that’s about Science (or socials)” NO! Meaningful –compare to video games ,boys prefer non fiction has a purpose, get them doing/interacting/finding information etc with French - Passport of skills in several languages –positive! 2. Passive skills at first- give them time before speaking 3. Errors to be expected by teachers as well! Creates empathy! Video game-10 lives! 4. “You can’t use that expression that is the subjunctive tense!” NO!1.
