Chapter objective: To describe the purpose of IRES, i.e. ‘to provide a firm foundation for the long-term development of energy statistics as a part of official statistics based on the Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics’ And give a context to these recommendations (e.g. historical background, need for IRES, etc.)
