Analysis of General Comments and Introduction Results from the Second Worldwide Consultation on IRES

Summary of the general comments • 60 comments were received • Most of them restated their support for IRES and emphasized its importance for the establishment and strengthening of energy statistics programmes • 20 issues/suggestions are brought up to the EGM • Technical/specific issues(4) • Presentation issues (4) • Issues in technical assistance (4) • Consistency with/harmonization of international data reporting (4) • Editorial and others (4)

Technical/specific issues (4) • Overlap of energy statistics with industrial statistics • Need for review of values for fuelwood • lack of appropriate detail for renewables in IRES • Presentational issues • overall consistency through the chapters • clear identification of the target audience of IRES • improving the presentation of technical definitions and concepts

Issues in technical assistance • Request of translation of the document • International workshop and overall assistance in the implementation of IRES • Consistency with/harmonization of international data reporting • Reduce response burden and consistency with international data collection already in place • Editorial and others

Chapter objective: To describe the purpose of IRES, i.e. ‘to provide a firm foundation for the long-term development of energy statistics as a part of official statistics based on the Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics’ And give a context to these recommendations (e.g. historical background, need for IRES, etc.)

  10. Discussion A list of issues brought up by the respondents to the 2nd WWC has been prepared and presented to the Expert Group. Members of the expert group are invited to provide their opinions on the presented issues.
