Titus 2:3-5 • “…the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things—that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.”

Is it a sin for a younger woman to ignore the teaching of the older women?” • Primary concern: • Not whether one sins by not listening to us when we teach her (or him)… • But that if one is ignoring Bible teaching, then she (or he) is refusing and disobeying God, Luke 10:16
Is it a sin for a younger woman to ignore the teaching of the older women?” • It is not sin if what is being taught amounts to giving personal advice where God allows differences in judgment, Rom. 14:3-5
Is it a sin for a younger woman to ignore the teaching of the older women?” • “Love their husbands”(Tit. 2:4) • “To love your husband you must give him a back rub every night (or you are not loving your husband like you should).” • No sin in following this advice or not following it…purely a matter of opinion! • But, you must love your husband
Is it a sin for a younger woman to ignore the teaching of the older women?” • When advice (opinion) is given: • May be poor judgment to refuse personal advice given by an older person, or • May be poor advice that is being given • But not necessarily sin, Prov. 12:15; 28:26 • Ruth 1:6-18: Naomi’s counsel & the decisions of Orpah & Ruth: Wise? Foolish? Sin?
We should learn how to be teachers, Titus 2:3 • Counsel/teaching must be combined with knowledge, Job 38:2 (42:3) • Do not take it as an insult when advice that is personal opinion is not followed, Rom. 14:3 • Personal opinion is not revealed truth • To react this way is sin! (Rom. 14:3)

We should learn how to receive instruction, Titus 2:4 • Listen respectfully & give due consideration to personal advice that is given out of love & loyalty to truth, Job 32:4-9 • Assess it against God’s word & then respond accordingly, Prov. 19:20-21 (Acts 17:11-12)

Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.” (Phil. 2:3-4) • “…submitting to one another in the fear of God.” (Eph. 5:21)
