The Learner Centered Curriculum • “The key difference between learner centered and traditional curriculum development is that, in the former, the curriculum is a collaborative effort between teachers and learners, since the learners are closely involved in the decision-making process regarding the context of the curriculum, how it is taught, and how it is assessed.”

  5. Steps to activating learner-centered curriculum • Content • Make instructional goals clear to learners. • Allow learners to create their own goals. • Encourage learners to use their second language outside the classroom.

Steps to activating a learner centered curriculum • Process • Raise awareness of the learning process. • Help learners identify their own preferred styles and strategies. • Encourage learner choice • Allow learners to generate their own learning tasks. • Encourage learners to become teachers. • Encourage learners to become researches of language.

Level 1- Awareness Level 2- Involvement Level 3- Intervention Level 4- Creation Level 5-Transcendence Identify strategy implication Make choices Modify and adapt tasks Create tasks and objectives They make links between the content of the classroom-outside the world. Implementing learner-centerdness in the process domain

Conclusion • The philosophy of learner-centerdness • Curriculum development should be a collaborative effort between teachers and learners. • Learners should be closely involved in decision-making process. • Such an approach implies a high degree of autonomy. • It also implies well developed insights into the learning styles and strategies that suit them best. • In effect two curricula running parallel are needed, a language content curriculum and a learning process curriculum.
