What is hepatitis? • An inflammation of the liver • Can be caused by a virus or can be drug/alcohol induced • Hepatitis B and C are the most common forms of hepatitis caused by viruses • Hepatitis can lead to serious, permanent liver damage, such as cirrhosis and/or liver cancer, and even death.
Hepatitis: • You can be infected with hepatitis and have no symptoms. • You can pass hepatitis on to others even if you don’t feel sick.

Hepatitis B • How it is transmitted: • Unprotected sex with an infected partner (semen, vaginal secretions) • Exposure to blood of an infected person (sharing needles or works, blood in mucous membranes or in cut/open wound) • Infected mother to baby during birth
Some Ways To Prevent Hepatitis B: • Use a latex condom if you have vaginal, anal or oral sex. • Don’t share needles or other supplies for drugs, tattoos, body piercing or acupuncture. If you use needles, use a new, clean needle every time.
More ways to prevent hepatitis B : • Don’t share toothbrushes or razors. • Cover all cuts and open sores. • Get vaccinated against hepatitis B. • Talk with your partner about safer sex.
Hepatitis C: How it is transmitted: • Primarily through blood of an infected person • Spread through sharing needles or works when shooting drugs, through needlesticks or sharps exposure on the job • Sometimes through an infected mother to baby during birth • It is possible to get hepatitis C from sex, but is uncommon,
