  3. Are You Lonesome Tonight Are you lonesome tonightdo you miss me tonightAre you sorry we drifted apartDoes your memory stray to a bright sunny dayWhen I kissed you and called you sweetheartDo the chairs in your parlor seem empty and bareDo you gaze at your doorstep and picture me thereIs your heart filled with pain, shall I come back againTell me dear, are you lonesome tonight Spoken:I wonder if you're lonesome tonightYou know someone said that the world's a stageAnd each must play a partFate had me playing in love you as my sweet heartAct one was when we met, I loved you at first glanceYou read your line so cleverly and never missed a cueThen came act two, you seemed to change and you acted strangeAnd why I'll never knowHoney, you lied when you said you loved meAnd I had no cause to doubt youBut I'd rather go on hearing your liesThan go on living without youNow the stage is bare and I'm standing thereWith emptiness all aroundAnd if you won't come back to meThen they can bring the curtain down Is your heart filled with pain, shall I come back againTell me dear, are you lonesome tonight The song that is shown shows the culture of 1960 very well. Elvis Presley was the biggest star of the 1960’s. He has three of the top ten songs of 1960. This song, “Are You Lonesome Tonight”, was his best. Everybody loved this type of music at the time. Listen to Elvis and you are getting a taste of the 60’s. The top ten songs of the year really show a trend. Elvis Presley is very popular. No wonder they call “The King of Rock and Roll”. He is truly an icon of the century. Yet, he doesn’t have the number one song of the year. Percy Faith fills the roll with the theme from “A Summer Place”. That song topped the charts. It was loved by almost everyone. That and Elvis made it a great musical year.

  4. John Fitzgerald Kennedy In November of 1960, John F. Kennedy was elected as the 35th president of the United States of America . He was the Successor of Dwight D. Eisenhower. He became the youngest and the first Roman Catholic president. Some would say he is the best president we ever had. He was a good leader. At the time we were in a race with Russia to get to the moon. He led NASA and the rest of the country to get us to the moon. At the time of Kennedy’s presidency we were stuck in the Vietnam war. Kennedy said when he entered office that he would continue the attack of Vietnam. He thought if they fell to Communism, surrounding Countries also would. The problem with Kennedy entering office when he did was that he entered right into the beginning of a recession. War funding in Vietnam was Making money tight. Also, the automobile business was down a lot. People just weren't buying very many Cars.

  5. Book of the Year To Kill a Mocking bird was the best book of it’s year. It may be the best and most well known book of the decade. The book takes place in the quiet town of Maycomb. It seems like a peaceful town, but underneath is not as tranquil.
